9-21-09 / Good job on this one Quinten! Especially after that 60' of line he ripped off on his second run!
FISHING REPORT
9-21-09 / This will be my last report for the year. Fishing this year has been a challenge for us and everyone else in the area. There were some great fishing days and if you were out on one of them you may have gotten close to a limit, but we did not pull in any limit catches this year. We did however, manage to catch fish on every paid trip we ran this year so that was a positive! Not all of the charters on the lakeshore can say that this year.
Over the past month the action south of Manitowoc did stay fairly consistant. We had been fishing from 80'-300' of water, most of the fish came around the 100'-130' area. More of the same as far as baits go. Dodger flies and mag spoons seemed to be the ticket, colors varied from orange to dark blue so there has been no real color pattern. We worked the entire water column and caught fish all over but the majority were probably from 50'-80' down.
There are some Chinooks in the rivers now and there are some staging out in front of the piers as well. We were out last night along with one other boat in front of the piers and we both picked up 1 Chinook. Today it has been raining all day so the best fishing of the fall should be the next few days, by the end of next week most fish should be up into the rivers. This will be a good time for shore fisherman to catch some big fish. So if you get the chance have at em! I can offer a lot of info for shore fishing areas and baits, so if you have any questions give us a call. (920) 860-0995
Otherwise start the furnace for the winter, stay warm, and get ready for some great salmon fishing in 2010!!
8-18-09 / Well its been a while since our last report. Since then the fishing has picked up a little. It has still been up and down but if your willing to work the fish are there. Over the past few weeks there has been some decent action in front of the Harbor anywhere from 10 fow to 30 fow. One day is good and one day is bad but there have been some nice catches. The west winds have kept the water fairly cold for this time of year so the fish have been staying closer to shore. Spoons and J-plugs have been working around the harbor.
This week we have been fishing 9-13 miles south of Manitowoc in 35 to 80 fow. Flasher flies have been the best for us down there. We caught a mixed bag of rainbows and kings and even a coho thrown in. The fishing has seemed to stay consistant for the past 5 days so lets hope it keeps up for the rest of the year. Soon the big kings will be staging near the harbors and that gets to be some pretty fun fishing. Until next time, good luck and fish when you can!
CAPT. Chad
7-12-09 / Sorry for the lack of reports lately, things have been pretty busy around here. The fishing out of Manitowoc really hasn't changed very much over the past month. The fish are still pretty spread out. We had a big west wind last week that brought the salmon in for a few days and we did very good but then they moved right back out. The last few trips have produced three to seven fish. We have not caught loads of fish this year but we have caught fish every trip. Chinook Express has been fishing anywhere from 50' of water to 120' fow. The temp breaks have been from 30-50' down. Magnum prokings and fly dodger setups have been working for us. Some boats have been making the long run out 16 miles and are picking up some nice kings and rainbows in 300' - 500' of water. Hopefully the west wind will keep blowing and the fishing should continue to improve.
6-10-09 / The big pond is showing more signs of life over the past few days. Fishing has picked up a lot. We've had some nice catches of Chinooks coming in along with a few lake trout and Rainbow trout. One boat even came in with a 4 person limit last Saturday in the rain. The water is still fairly cold but the fish don't seem to mind. It should just keep getting better over the next few weeks. The fish have been pretty spread out as far as depth goes. We are fishing in 40' - 120' of water and catching fish in nearly the entire water column. Water temps have varied from 44 degrees to 49 degrees in the areas that we have been fishing. With the warm weather predicted over the next week the action should get hot!!
5-26-09 / The water is finally showing signs of a little warm up!! The Chinook Express didn't make it out this weekend because the CAPT was on a Chambers Island adventure off the shores of Fish Creek, WI. There were still plenty of boats fishing out of the Manitowoc Harbor this weekend though. I would rate the fishing as ok. Most boats came in with a mixed bag of fish; Lake Trout, Chinooks, and Rainbows. No large catches but some of 4-6 fish. Depths varied from 40 feet out to 220 feet depending on what boat you talk to.
We should get out this week and able to get a new report up soon. Hopefully if we get about a 5 degree warm up the fishing should be great!! Check back for updates and new photos and good luck fishing!!
